Tofugu Blog
I started Tofugu sometime in 2007, I think. I was in university and my advisor was kind enough to let me start this as an independent study project. I was working a lot, and had some personal projects going on, so at the time I was thinking about how I could get college credit and be able to go to fewer classes. I did a few of these kinds of independent studies / teacher assistant gigs over my four years. Looking back, they were probably some of the most meaningful things I did in college. I had to figure things out for myself, and my learning was extremely representative. What was me being lazy / trying to get out of class time turned out to be a big part of my education, I think.
In the early years, Tofugu did make some ad revenue. I also had one of the larger YouTube channels (of the timeβvery small by today's standards). Without those, TextFugu or WaniKani would never have gotten much traction.
We're currently not writing much on it. Maybe we will again someday, but most of our focus is on WaniKani for the time being. But, I really appreciate how much Tofugu has helped us to get to where we're at now.
